Life Fitness: Commercial & Home Fitness Equipment

Life Fitness: Commercial & Home Fitness Equipment

1. Introduction

There are two purposes of this work. When I first took on this project, it was to provide a detailed description of the type of work Life Fitness does and the attitude of their employment. The second purpose was to develop a critical analysis of the contract and to utilize psychology in evaluating the consumer. These purposes were fulfilled by using random individuals in a survey attempting to evaluate Life Fitness equipment on both a positive and negative note. The responses were then compared to the contract and how the employees feel about their company. During the time of this project, Life Fitness became an international company combining its North American, European, and Asian operations. This served as an opportunity to evaluate the consumer on various levels of society, with an end result of better understanding what the consumer is after.

Purpose of the work.

Life Fitness provides a wide range of fitness equipment. It has become a known fact that fitness equipment is an important resource to any individual who is serious about their personal health. Life Fitness provides many types of equipment including cardiovascular training and strength training gear. A general description of the types of equipment they provide are: treadmills, elliptical cross-trainers, exercise bikes, and strength training.

Importance of fitness equipment.

Life Fitness is a fitness equipment company that was founded in the United States. It has been in operation since 1977 and has resulted in the manufacturing of many types of products. Life Fitness is a well-known company and is usually featured in many athletic and recreational facilities. It has resulted in becoming the main brand for most health clubs and has even led to becoming the primary brand for many national and international sports teams. Life Fitness is a part of Brunswick Corporation.

1.1 Overview of Life Fitness

The company Life Fitness is one of the leading companies in the world in providing exercise equipment and fitness machines. The company has been around for many years and is still continuing to expand. Life Fitness provides many types of exercise equipment including treadmills, elliptical machines, and exercise bikes. 1.2 Importance of Fitness Equipment

Two primary categories exist when talking about the importance of commercial and home fitness equipment, and they are those of the general health improvement and the resulting increase in athletic performance. The significance of enhanced health is universally acknowledged. When an individual is more healthy, they can generally lead a more rewarding and active life. There are also perceived psychological benefits to being healthier. For example, if you are trying to do a pull-up on a high bar and you have never managed to do so, you are likely to feel quite discouraged. On the other hand, if you are able to do a pull-up, you might feel a sense of achievement. This is because you set a goal which was attainable given your health level, and you were able to reach it. A sense of achievement or increased self-worth will result, leading to a more positive attitude in life. Given the connections between fitness and health, it is no surprise that fitness equipment and home fitness equipment has grown in popularity. With increased technology in commercial fitness equipment and home fitness equipment, there is a huge opportunity and various options for an individual to increase their health or lifestyle. Simulation with an Olympic barbell comparing a low-priced barbell without bearings and a $1000 barbell is one example to illustrate what I mean. A person can do many things with $1000, but this activity at present or other sport may be his only source of achieving a sense of achievement commencing a more rewarding life.

2. Commercial Fitness Equipment

Strength training is the most important aspect of any workout. Muscular strength is the amount of force a muscle or group of muscles can exert against an object. The best way to monitor your progress is by increasing the weight used for the exercise. Life Fitness has several different lines such as the Pro 2, Circuit Series, and Hammer Strength. The Pro 2 is a series that is great for any type of user. This series uses cam-based resistance and low starting weight. The Circuit Series is for more of a mid-range user. Irresistibly resistant training.

2.3 Exercise Bikes

The two remaining Lifecycle exercise bikes are the Life Fitness Lifecycle C3 and the C7. The C3 is one of the best exercise bikes that are upright one can possibly find. It is very high quality, but is the most affordable out of all of the Lifecycle exercise bikes. One of the great features is that both the seat and the pedals are interchangeable. You are able to move the seat to a 'bio-pace' which is a more comfortable seating position. The C3 also has a 3-speed accessory tray. The C7 is very similar to the C3 but it is a stepper bike and the frame is slightly different. Step through allows easy access to the bike. Both of these exercise bikes are perfect for somebody, on a budget, looking for quality, comfort, and fun.

Another high-end exercise bike is the Life Fitness Lifecycle 9500HR bike, in a choice of two models. The Life Fitness 9500HR has both a belt and string driven version. These two exercise bikes are a commercial upright exercise bike and they have several features. You can obtain wireless or contact heart rate monitoring. The ergonomically right design ensures relaxed use of the bike. There is a wide range of seating options, from a moveable seat and a ratcheting seat. You can also buy the 9500HR Lifecycle bike with an LCD screen (in a choice of four colors) if you have a higher budget. This screen allows you to check up on your improvement, with functions such as an odometer and a calories burnt counter. The 9500HR exercise bikes are high quality and are packed with exciting and unique features.

The newest released Lifecycle exercise bike is by far the best in the range, the R1 Lifecycle exercise bike. This bike is the only one that uses the patented Eddy current resistance system; this ensures that the ride is smooth and quiet. This model is also special because you are able to have a 'racing' style ride with three different hand position options. The front and rear shocks can be adjusted to suit you and are interchangeable. The pedals are dual sided and come with a self-balancing strap.

Life Fitness has so many different exercise bikes that you will be able to find the perfect bike to specifically suit the needs of you or your family. Life Fitness exercise bikes are divided into two categories: Lifecycle exercise bikes and the C1 and C3 upright exercise bikes. There are seven different Lifecycle exercise bike models and four different C1 and C3 exercise bikes. All of these exercise bikes range in prices to fit everyone's budget.

2.4 Cross Trainers

Both rear and front driven Life Fitness cross trainers are very durable, offering solid stability and a natural feel due to the relatively high machine weight and the eddy current magnetic resistance systems. Life Fitness X series crosstrainers (X1, X3, X5, X8 & X8.5) tend to be very high quality machines suited to providing an excellent home workout. These weigh around 90-155kg and have Life Fitness standard control and console layouts with around 15 programmes and 20 resistance levels controlled by a series of buttons. Life Fitness Go crosstrainers are slightly lower spec models that weigh in at a lighter 70-90kg and have a more basic and compact design. These are similar in quality to the X series machines but offer a more cost-effective option for customers with space or budget constraints in the domestic market. The Club Series Elliptical Cross Trainer, available in rear or front driven versions, is essentially a light commercial machine marketed at the domestic user with higher specs than the X series and rated for double the usage of the home models. The Club Series resembles the crosstrainers found in health clubs and has a larger footprint at approximately 195 x 76cm but is still a very popular choice for the home.

Lifefitness produces a range of two basic styles of cross trainer: a rear driven style that feels like an elliptical version of a rear driven elliptical, and a front driven crosstrainer where the user stands more upright and the foot pedals travel along more linear paths. The different elliptical paths of the foot plates create a somewhat different feel between the two styles of cross trainer, with the front driven models (X1 & X3 Go) being more like a traditional elliptical. The rear driven models (X5, X8 & X8.5) generate a longer, virtually flat back and forth motion that's similar to both walking and running. The xE range also includes multi gyms that have an upper body exercise component similar to a hand bike for complete total body workouts.

2.5 Group Training Equipment

The Life Fitness SYNRGY 360 and SYNRGY 360XS are ideal for group training. These multifunctional training machines offer eighteen distinctive modular spaces for customised workouts. These units can be used individually or expanded into multiple linked training areas accommodating up to eighteen exercisers. The Training Space and Group Training Zones allows your members to perform dozens of exercises and hundreds of workouts, whether training individual clients, small groups or Bootcamp style training. The ability to effectively store accessories and the option to accommodate numerous exercisers at once make the SYNRGY 360 and 360XS very space efficient options for the facility owner. High engagement and comprehensive exercise options for the exerciser will increase member retention and satisfaction. With its versatility, the SYNRGY 360 series is the optimal solution for fitness facilities, personal trainers, physical therapy or any situation where exercise space must be maximized.

Life Fitness caters for the group training method of fitness to complete the commercial fitness equipment range. A fluid natural motion that is closest to free weights, group training equipment provides a superior exercise. The group training equipment is space efficient and has a low starting resistance which is suitable for all levels of strength. With fixed resistance dual axis movement, the group training range provides a great core workout. The various group training equipment available are outlined below.

3. Home Fitness Equipment

In very simple terms, home fitness equipment helps us to get into shape, enhances how we look, and can help us to feel better. Many people decide to pick some sort of fitness equipment for all these reasons, but what is the best fitness equipment for you? Home fitness equipment is no longer a luxury but has become a necessity, as we are living in a fast-paced world where we barely have time to go out to a commercial gym to fulfill our fitness requirements. With less time available, maintaining fitness at home has become very practical. Home fitness equipment is something that can be utilized by everyone in the family. It's not necessary to do some sort of hardcore training to enjoy the benefits of fitness equipment. There are so many fitness equipment varieties that are easy to use and comfortable.

3.1 Benefits of Home Fitness Equipment

The benefit of having home fitness equipment is multi-faceted. First of all, if you own your own equipment, there is no need to wait in line at a busy gym or for someone to finish with the weights or a machine. With home fitness equipment, you are the only person to use it and you can use it whenever you want. This is a fantastic option for parents of young children or people with demanding jobs; you can work out when it best suits you, be it at 6 am or 10 pm.
People new to exercise may feel intimidated by a visit to the gym, as it's an unfamiliar place, full of people they don't know. Moreover, going to a gym can be expensive - there's the monthly membership to pay and possibly additional costs for parking, childcare, and using the facilities. At the end of the day, if you only use a gym a couple of times a week, it's hardly worth the expense. Any of these are good reasons to consider starting with home fitness equipment.
An additional benefit is that for the total cost of home fitness equipment, you are making a lifelong investment. With proper use and care, some equipment can last a lifetime. Moreover, as you become more fit, there is often an ongoing need to increase the level of resistance provided by the equipment, an option not always available with all gym equipment.

3.2 Treadmills for Home Use

Treadmills are the most popular cardiovascular machines. It is easy to understand why. Next to good running shoes, a treadmill may be the single best investment in fitness. Walking is the easiest, most natural form of exercise. It is a prime candidate for a more active lifestyle. And coupled with a consistent approach to fitness and nutrition, it is the most effective way to lose weight and keep it off. Imagine the impact of a clinical grade treadmill in your home. Life Fitness treadmills are designed with health club quality and are the best treadmills for any home. Built with a LifeSprings and patented FlexDeck Shock Absorption System, they take the shock out of running reducing stress on the joints, knees and lower back. The Track+ console connects you to your mobile device for real-time tracking with the Go Console offering essential programming you need to maintain your fitness routine. The F1 Smart Treadmill folds, rolls, and stores easily and with its compact size can be utilized in any open area. The folding T3 Treadmill is a step up and comes with a choice of the Go and Track+ consoles. The spacious and sturdy T5 Treadmill is high grade with an advanced console with entertainment options.
Lifetime fitness means family fitness. Our research showed that the number one reason that people don't exercise is "I don't have time." Nothing is worse than an exercise machine in the house that no one uses. You should consider the Life Fitness Treadmill Desk. A revolutionary product that allows employees and individuals to work and make phone calls all while being productive and getting healthy exercise walking. It's an excellent solution for use in the home so that family members can get their work done and still contribute to the fitness solution.

3.3 Strength Training Equipment for Home Use

Having your own strength training equipment at home is a great way to stay motivated and consistent with your training. No longer will there be the unemployment of having to wait for machines at a busy gym. It is a long-term investment and will save money on gym memberships in the long run. How can there be any better way to train than in the privacy of your own home?

The bench press is a simple yet effective exercise and perfect for those seeking to develop their pectoral muscles. The Life Fitness Traditional Bench Press can be easily adjusted with a pop pin, has superior upholstery, and is extremely durable. Free weights are an inexpensive and space-efficient way to build strength. The Life Fitness Hammer Strength Round Rubber Dumbbell sets and the Hammer Strength 12-sided Rubber Dumbbell sets are both high quality and safe options for those training at home. Both these sets are rubber-coated which reduces noise, lowers maintenance costs, and protects flooring and equipment.

Life Fitness home equipment options consist of multi-gyms, bench press, and free weight sets. The G2 Home Gym System allows you to experience a variety of different exercises on one machine. With a weight stack and no cable changes, the G2 is as convenient as it is versatile. The Variable Arc Multi-Gym is perfect for those seeking a natural arc motion and a club quality feel. The VAGM comes with a weight stack and space-saving design. Both the G2 and the VAGM come with a variety of different add-ons and are backed with a lifetime warranty for as long as you own the equipment.

It is possible to now enjoy the benefits of strength training in the confines of your own home. No longer is there a need to travel to a gym. Although there are many types of strength training equipment, there are only a few perfect for home use.

3.4 Exercise Bikes for Home Use

Static bikes are provided by Life Fitness in two separate ranges. The C1 Lifecycle and C3 Lifecycle offer an upright and recumbent bike respectively, both with very high-quality manufacturing and an exceptional ease of use. Both bikes have a dual heart rate contact hand sensor, with telemetry heart rate monitoring also available. Eddy current resistance is smooth and silent, with a wide range of resistance settings. The M1 is a modern take on a home exercise bike. Designed to look more like a piece of modern fitness equipment, it uses the familiar magnetic resistance system found on other exercise bikes. It has a small footprint and transport wheels for easier movement. At the very top of the range is the full commercial standard Lifecycle GX range. A 'showcase' cluster of the very best in modern input technology has been used to create the engaging LED display console. A gas-assist seat post provides the pop-pin adjust ad integrated device shelf with the semi-recumbent bike. All GX range bikes have a rear engager accessory port.

The exercise bike has long been a staple of the home fitness equipment market. It offers a lower impact cardiovascular workout and has been widely recommended by physicians for those rehabilitating a lower body injury. They are easy and safe to use. Riders are positioned in an upright position or can use a recumbent bike, where the rider is positioned with the pedals out in front of them. The seat is usually more comfortable than an upright bike. The prices are moderate. Expect to pay $200 for a recumbent or $1000 for a high-quality upright bike. The emphasis when buying an exercise bike should be on the weight of the flywheel. This is a good indicator of the quality and smoothness of the ride. Another point to consider is adjustability of the seat. This is a particularly important feature for those using a bike to rehabilitate an injury. The console on an exercise bike is fairly simple when compared to those on a treadmill or elliptical machine. Display is restricted to speed, time, distance, and heart rate. Heart rate is monitored through the handle grips. There are a few bikes now available with interactive programs, more similar to what's found now on exercise-oriented machines.

3.5 Home Gym Systems

There are other forms of home gyms for those with plenty of space. A Smith machine combined with a bench and dumbbell rack is a great choice, though this machine is quite heavy on cost it is an investment that pays off. Many plate loaded leverage systems or even plate loaded Smith machines can replicate a workout that is very similar to free weight counterparts, and they are great for serious trainers who are looking to boost strength levels. For those that are after something that is similar to gym quality or possibly even better, a little shopping around for commercial grade equipment can land a multi-gym or even a leg press. Then there is the ultimate extravagance, a loaded leg press or hack squat stand-alone machine are a great addition to any serious leg trainer. Every person is different and a choice of home gym should reflect that person's training style and what forms of exercise that they enjoy.

If space is an issue and a room isn't available for a home gym, a "multi-gym" is the wise choice. Many home gyms now are compact and space efficient. These home gyms can go in the corner of a room, in a garage or even in an outdoor shed, taking up very little space. The best place for a home gym that is out of the way is in the basement. There are many health benefits to weight training on a regular basis, particularly increasing bone mineral density and lean muscle, so weight training is essential.

4. Choosing the Right Fitness Equipment

4.2 Budget Considerations
Setting the budget is a crucial decision because it will determine what sort of equipment you can buy. Let’s take an example that an individual has decided to buy some type of equipment to help lose a few extra pounds. Well, in this case, he would need to consider that a cross trainer, treadmill, bike, or rowing machine is best for such a target, and trying to spend $100 is likely to be a false economy as the equipment is going to be of poor quality and/or an outdated old model.

4.1 Factors to Consider
The most important factor in choosing the right equipment is what you are making an attempt to achieve. Whether it be losing a few extra pounds, shaping up, bodybuilding, or athletic training, because these decisions will steer you in different directions. Consider the following.

When choosing the right type of fitness equipment for your house or organization, you'll be faced by a barrage of choices and considerations. The foremost as well as primary question is often one of funds "how much am I going to spend?" The next question is "what am I trying to achieve?" In this text, I will not be in a position to inform you what to spend on selected types of equipment (i.e. brand names and models), but I can give you a depth idea of what kind of equipment you need, at whatever budget to achieve YOUR goals.

4.1 Factors to Consider

It's always an important step to set your goal before. It's no different when it comes to fitness. Before determining which types of equipment to purchase, you should first take a look at your targeted area of improvement. By doing so, you will have a clearer picture of the type of equipment that you would purchase. Perform some research to see which exercise programs have shown to be the most effective to your area of improvement. Also, you may want to inquire at fitness centers what has worked for others in similar situations to yours. Oftentimes, the most successful fitness programs are those which are simpler in nature and revolve around the use of exercise equipment. It used to be that light to moderate cardio equipment was considered a no brainer purchase. The only real formula for misguided exercise has been an implementation of some type of cardio exercise program. With the obesity epidemic, the past decade has shown many discoveries regarding full body training and its major health benefits. This is something you should also consider in the process.
Some equipment types have a very wide range of prices. Good examples of this are treadmills, stationary bikes, elliptical trainers, and strength equipment. You can find a treadmill for anywhere between $400 and $3000. The same holds true for each of the other equipment types mentioned. Determine a price range so that you will have a ceiling or an exact price that you would like to pay within each equipment type. This will help to narrow down your search and help prevent the temptation of spending too much.
Some lesser known points to consider are a comfortable stride length for shorter individuals on elliptical trainers, the amount of horsepower in a treadmill motor to accommodate heavier users, and the sturdiness of home gym equipment for individuals weighing over 200-300 lbs. If you or others have any health problems, injuries, or rehabilitation needs, it would be a good idea to check with a medical professional to see what type of equipment may be recommended or which types should be avoided.

4.2 Budget Considerations

- Grants
- Lease-Purchase Plans
- Financing and Loans

In examining budgetary considerations for a fitness facility, it is important to consider both short-term and long-term costs. Fitness equipment is a substantial investment with considerable variance in cost. Equipment with a proven history of effectiveness, durability, and product support will cost more, but will ultimately save the purchaser money in the long term. A unit that costs less, but has a high probability of breakdown, will result in higher long-term costs. Another consideration in the cost of a unit is the availability of used or remanufactured systems. Many lower quality fitness products are sold on the consumer market, yet a shortage of used commercial equipment has created a high demand and higher price for quality pre-owned units. Life Fitness offers some of the highest quality fitness equipment with one of the highest resale values in the industry. This feature could be beneficial to the facility which plans to upgrade equipment at a later date. Finally, consider long-term operating costs and possibilities for cost-recovery. Life Fitness offers some of the most energy-efficient and low-maintenance products for commercial fitness facilities. In considering potential membership retention and attraction of new clientele, fitness equipment is a key determinant. This factor should be weighted in correlation with budget, with highest consideration given to funding allocation and equipment financing from:

4.3 Space Requirements

A very important factor that governs the selection of fitness equipment is the amount of space that you have available. Whether it is for commercial or home fitness equipment, if you do not have the right amount of space to accommodate it, you will not use it effectively. The equipment will be left gathering dust in the corner, or it will not be used for the intended purpose, and for some equipment, this will mean that you have wasted your money. A good example of this is something like a commercial treadmill. Treadmills take up quite a bit of room because the motor and the longest part of the treadmill bed are housed in the console. They also are quite heavy and difficult to move when assembled. An individual may buy a treadmill with good intentions of using it regularly, but if they have to put it in a room that doesn't have enough space to allow them to make the most of the treadmill's full range of movement, then they will end up feeling like it was an inconvenience to their home and they won't enjoy using it. This situation may lead to a repetition of specific purchases for the same type of equipment due to encumbered use of the equipment, and the owner may feel discouraged and dissatisfied with their equipment which is not a good outcome. Another scenario is if someone buys a squat rack or a smith machine for their home. These two pieces of equipment are very effective for strength and mass building, but they take up quite a bit of space and someone would need to allocate a specific area of their home to utilize its function; preferably a garage or any other open spaced room. If someone were to buy one of the aforementioned machines with the intention of using it for a specific purpose, and then they did not have the correctly allocated space to use the equipment, they would feel like it was a wasted purchase.
As mentioned, it is vital to ensure that you have enough space to accommodate your fitness equipment. Whether it is for commercial equipment in a gym environment, a club or an institute; or home fitness equipment for personal use. You want the best experience with your chosen equipment for either scenario, so don't let a lack of space take that experience away from anyone who uses it. A good way to determine the space needed for home fitness equipment is to set up the desired room for the equipment and mark the area that it will take up using any household item e.g. books, chairs etc. Leave the item/s there for a week and see if it hindered any usual activities in the room. This will determine the effectiveness of whether there is enough space for the equipment to be used at its full potential.

4.4 Maintenance and Warranty

Having a good understanding of warranty coverage is essential before you make your purchase. At Life Fitness, there are no stipulations for where the equipment can be placed in order to qualify for warranty coverage. Many other equipment manufacturers will not cover their product unless it is placed within a commercial facility. Life Fitness will service the equipment at your location if it requires maintenance under the warranty. A separate team of field engineers is employed exclusively for this purpose. Finally, Life Fitness provides worldwide after-sales service and technical support as well as a shipment of spare parts in the 13th month after the product was purchased from the factory. This is all enhanced by Life Fitness' industry-leading warranty provision which can be found at the customer support area of the Life Fitness website.

Regardless of where you purchase your exercise equipment, remember to keep it clean and lubricated. Proper care will ensure the life and performance of your equipment. Check moving parts and other components for signs of wear and tear regularly. These components can be found in the User Manual that came with your equipment. This is also where you will find replacement part listings, if needed. Life Fitness also offers a range of accessories including equipment mats, lubricant for the treadmill belt, and weights cleaner which are available at the Life Fitness website shop.
